BBC: The Human Planet

Its here. & you should take a few days off to give this documentary the devotion it deserves.
The BBC's latest piece of hi-def anthropologic beauty turns the lens on possibly Earth's strangest inhabitants; humans. My usual dislike for modern man stepped aside for this look into the humans relationship with the planet. Mankind's 'mastery' of the globe's various realms, starting with the oceans and traveling to rivers, grasslands, jungles & desserts, isn't convincing me so far. Surfing a 26 meter wave is impressive, yes. But compared to the sheer destructive force of a tsunami or typhoon it is feeble. The symbiosis of creatures is pretty remarkable, you see how humans & animals have come to interact with each other in many different ways to increase their own survival. But thorough the segments, the most evident relationship on show is that of a clearly abusive relationship between man and nature. Overpopulation, overfishing, overconsuming & polluting is now way to ensure our continued existence and this doco shows just how much damage we continue to inflict upon our only home. It is essential viewing for so many reasons. And the analogies are beautiful.
